Basic Blackjack Strategy Explained

MAIN RULES FOR THE BASIC BLACKJACK STRATEGY

  • if dealer’s up card is 6 or lower and your total is 12 or more;
  • if dealer’s up card is 7 or higher and your total is 17 or more;
  • on soft 18 or more!
  • on soft 17 or less!
  • on 10/11 if your total is higher that dealer’s up card!
  • if you have pair of Aces and 8’s;
  • if you have pair of 7’s, if dealer’s has 7 or less
Remember! Dealer takes cards until his value of them reaches 17 points or higher.

MIND THE DEALER

The basis of this strategy is that dealer has to stand on 17 or more points. Also, it is important that he can not split or double down. Take into consideration:

  • If dealer’s face up cards values from 3 to 6 points, there is a good chance that he will bust;
  • stand if your total is 13-16 point and dealer’s up card is 3-6;
  • hit if your total is 13-16 and dealer’s up card is 7-10, J, Q, K, A.

BLACKJACK BASIC STRATEGY FOR SOFT HANDS

A soft hand means that one of your starting hands contains an Ace and it is counted as 11.

  • player’s 13 / 14 against dealer’s up 5 / 6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 15 / 16 against dealer’s up 4-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 17 against dealer’s up 3-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 18 against dealer’s up 3-6
  • player’s 18 against dealer’s up 9, 10, J, Q, K, Ace
  • player’s 18 against dealer’s up 2,7,8

BASIC BLACKJACK STRATEGY FOR HARD HANDS

A hard hand means that one of your starting hands contains an Ace and it is counted as 1.

  • player’s 9 against dealer’s up 3-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 10 against dealer’s up 2-9 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 11 against dealer’s up 3-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 9 on any hand of 8 and lower
  • player’s 12 against dealer’s up 4-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 13-16 against dealer’s up 2-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 17-21 against any dealer’s

BASIC BLACKJACK STRATEGY FOR SPLITTING PAIRS

  • player’s 2-3,7 against dealer’s up 2-7 (o/w hit)
  • player’s 4 only against dealer’s up 5-6
  • player’s 6 against dealer’s up 2-6 (o/w hit)
  • player’s Ace & 8 against any dealer’s
  • player’s 9 against dealer’s up 2-6, 8-9
  • player’s 9 against dealer’s up 7, 10, J, Q, K, Ace
  • player’s 5, 10, J, Q, K

ADVANTAGE PLAY
