Worst Blackjack Rules

21 May 2025

The rules of some blackjack variations are different from the standard ones and in order not to play the games with the lower odds than at the traditional blackjack game we offer you the list of the most common rules that are considered to be the worst.

Blackjack Pays 6 to 5

As you know, normally the blackjack pays 3 to 2 but at some casinos you can meet the games in which the player is paid out 6 to 5 when he gets the blackjack hand. To attack the players the only one deck is used at such games but, to tell the truth, it doesn't help much to increase the player's probabilities. For every $10 the player bets he gets $3 less when getting blackjack. Remember that at such games the house edge is increased by 1.39% which is not profitable for the player.

Blackjack Pays Even Money

This is one more trick at blackjack table that you must avoid. Usually, the games in which blackjack pays 1 to 1 have other rules that may be favorable for the gambler, such as single deck or the possibility to surrender after hitting, splitting or doubling, but in fact they cannot influence the player's advantage. Thus, at such blackjack games the casino edge goes up by 2.3%.

Dealer Hits on Soft 17s

Usually the dealer must stand on all 17s, but most casinos have changed this rule and allowed the dealer to hit on all SOFT 17s. In this case, again, the house advantage is increased by 0.20%. That is why always look for the tables at which the dealer stands on all 17s and you will get more chances to win big.

Double Down on 11 and 10

The rule allowing the players to Double Down on 11 and 10 (or just 11) cannot be good option for you. Such rule is usually applied at the single deck games which attract many players. On average, at blackjack game where you cannot Double Down on 9 or any soft hand the house edge raises by 0.7%.

8 Decks Blackjack Game

This is the most popular rule that is usually applied not only to avoid cheating but also to increase the casino advantage. At the games with 8 decks it goes up by 0.61%!

So, every time you are offered to play some new blackjack games, remember that there have never been such games with exotic rules which offered lower house edge. Choose the games carefully and before you start wagering real money learn the game rules very attentively!
