Facial Recognition Scanners at Canada Casinos

Canada decided to provide the special software at the land casinos that will help to decrease the level of gambling addiction. According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the casinos will have the special facial recognition scanners used to prevent the self-excluded players from entering the casino.

First in order to start the software, the profiles of gamblers excluded from the casinos must be compiled. The gamblers can be excluded by themselves or by other people, their families or friends. Thus, the scanners will be able to recognize the persons from the list, signal about that and problem gamblers will not be allowed to enter the casino or gambling venue.

The program at first will contain only the profiles of those gamblers who voluntarily wish to be excluded. This is not surprising because, according to the Ontario Lottery data, about ten thousand residents have already decided to sign the agreement banning them from the casino halls. However, this agreement is quite democratic as the gambler is free to choose any term to be excluded - from six months to indefinitely.

The technology has been developed at the University of Toronto and the scientists are sure that it is better than any human security observation. It is expected that such systems will be installed this year and the first tests will be held in September.
